
COCONINO SANDSTONE
Quarried in north central Arizona at approximately 4000 to 6500' elevation, Coconino Sandstone is available in a variety of sizes and thickness, as flagstone and as building stone. The colors, and tones within these colors, are as varied and beautiful as the majestic Grand Canyon.
SPECIFICS
This material conforms to ASTM C 616-85 Sandstone Building Stone as noted:Resistance to abrasion averages 11. Conforms to Type II Quartzitic Sandstone except: Specific gravity is 140 lbs. In lieu of 150 lbs. Per cubic foot. Sandstone typically weights ~ 12 lbs. Per inch thickness, per square foot. Sandstone typically can absorb 3% of its weight in moisture.
COVERAGE (PER TON)
Due to several factors, the square foot coverage per ton of a sandstone job will vary. The average stone thickness, size of joints, and use of broken pieces will affect the coverage. These determinations will vary per job requirements
FLAGSTONE:
2'' Thickness.....................approximately 80-110 SQ FT per ton
No. 1 Medium..................approximately 110-150 SQ FT per ton
X-Thin (1 1/4 minus)........approximately 135-175 SQ FT per ton
STRIPSTONE:
All sizes (2-4'', 4-6'' and 6-8'')......approx. 45-55 SQ FT per ton
